About the Artist
I was four-years old and loved to go to the office with my Daddy. He had his own business, so I kinda thought I had free reign of the place, but truly, my favorite reason for wanting to go to the office with him was the treasure that was in his secretary’s drawer: a set of colored pencils. I loved to draw and I really loved those colored pencils!
Flash forward 15 or so years and I was in college at TCU, using the (then) modern-day version of the colored pencil. I discovered them in a Fashion Illustration class and I was hooked. I had a set of 72 and they were beautiful colors. I really set out to be an interior design illustrator…but I jumped on that bandwagon way too late. The hot thing for designers at the time was CAD (Computer Aided Design) and the new illustrator had a monitor and a keyboard…not a set of paints and pencils.
You guessed it…I had to put down the art and pick up a “real job.” After several years of “real work” and then 13 years of “mom work” (much harder than real work!), I’ve discovered art once again. My passions are colored pencil artwork and illustrations and graphite pencil – both realistic in appearance.
It took some nerve to put myself out here in a public forum…but here I am anyway. I’ve “colored me here.” My favorite subjects are animals, birds and the effects of light on reflective surfaces. I’ll post as I go and show you my artwork along the way. I hope you enjoy the ride as much as I do!

Thank you Geoffrey! I tend to use the wax-based pencils – Prismacolor, Derwent Colorsoft and Caran D’Ache Luminance. For really fine, detailed work, I use Faber Castell and Caran D’Ache Pablo, both of which are oil-based and harder. My favorite paper right now is from Australia – it is Art Spectrum Colorfix “Suede.” The primer on the surface of the paper works beautifully with the three wax-based pencils I mentioned – to the point that the layers of wax start to behave like paint! Thanks for asking…I appreciate your interest in my work!
